A family saga that takes us through the recent history of Portugal, with the revolution of April of 1974 serving as a starting point for what’s to come. Duarte, a talented pianist with an exceptional gift, searches for his place in the world. But is his talent a gift that grants him redemption and meaning, or rather an invisible shackle that keeps him trapped in the scars of the past?

Though it takes place against the backdrop of the transition to democracy, the story centred in Duarte’s inner conflict is more an exploration of the effects of the colonial war on individuals and the suffering carried forward through generations.

The sober and austere cinematography is a perfect match to the introspective mood created by the complex family dynamics, reinforcing the lasting impact that historical events may have on the personal and family life of every human being.
